Jupiter,A Failed Star?

Written By Astromate

While most of the space bodies are generalise as planet, brown dwarfs, stars and supernova, first we need to clarify which Bodies are eligible to be called as stars and planet and something else if necessary!

The Formation of sun start as collapse  of dense cloud of interstellar gas and dust. After rotation this matter tend to form a disk consisting of same material surrounding around the central, growing the star in making.

Soon as the sun reached it's final mass the leftover matter of the disk is released to form planets around the Sun.

The Formation of Jupiter is not much similar It took two steps for big guy to step in Planet-Game.

The two-step process of the Jupiter involved a 'planetisimals' of ice and rock to collapse and accumulate into a giant planetary embryo with mass equal to 10 times of the Earth.

This giant mass induced enough self-gravitational to pull the mass from the Disk gas left after the Formation of sun. In 2nd formation step Young Jupiter gained most of it's mass that is 318 times mass of the Earth. Soon intende Early solar winds cause disk gas to vanish.

This even affected Saturn and Saturn failed to be as big as Jupiter

The Formation of star is direct collapse of necessary interstellar matter but the planet and brown-dwarfs tend to form with matter of disk left after formation of star

The insufficient mass of Jupiter might make it eligible to be called as a 'failed star',but one more reason makes giant guilty.

The elements of the sun are similar to that of Jupiter but mass is where the Giant fails.

The mass of Jupiter is 0.1% mass of the sun but the hydrogen and helium elements keeps a similarly in them. sufficient mass of sun induces Nuclear fusion reaction which converts 2 hydrogen elements into a helium. hydrogen acting as a fuel to the sun. So sun grabbing most of the mass in beginning leaving disk's insufficient mass for the Jupiter couldn't induce Nuclear Fusion reaction in it. Making it a 'Failed star'.

But it is interesting to know that more than half of the star system in the universe consist of binary, tertiary or higher multiple of star in their system. Leaving our system's sun as an introvert.

Bonus: In Greek mythology God Jupiter had a wife named 'Juno' where as Juno is the name of the solar probe sent for the study of giant planet Jupiter.
